Emma watson rodney cutler hair

Usually there’s an awkward period when growing out such a short cut, like a pixie, how did you keep Emma’s hair looking so fabulous through this stage?
“When growing out your hair, it’s a balancing act between growing the length but not to where it gets too shaggy and then growing the layers, so that it doesn’t look too matronly. The idea with Emma was to have a soft layered shaggy hair cut and when there was enough length, to bring it in to where it is today, which is a soft graduated bob. What’s nice about this, is that while it maintains a classic sensibility, it is quite modern. The longer lengths in the front disconnect from the length in the back, making it appear less traditional. Also the deep richness in color gives it a more chic finish.”

What is the maintenance like for growing out a pixie — do you need regular trims?
“Recommended trims would be two weeks longer than you normally would do. That way you are getting rid of the dry ends, but it gives you a little bit more time and length between hair cuts to allow growth.”

What products do you recommend for styling hair this length?
“I think it’s ideal to mix together Redken Sheer Straight and Redken Glass Smoothing Serum and blow dry this into the hair. Use a flat iron to smooth out the ends then finish off with some Redken Workforce Flexible Volumizing Spray.”

What would you tell people who get frustrated when trying to grow out their hair?
“I always say that ultimately it is worth the wait when you are attempting to grow out your hair, because changing your style up can have a big impact on how you are perceived. If you are frustrated in the meantime, try accessorizing your hair – introduce braids, hats, and hair bands into your daily routine.”
